Are You Often Shopping At Dollar Tree? Here Are 8 Items You Should AVOID If You Want to Become More Frugal

If you are trying to save some money or be more frugal, Dollar Tree is the right place to do your shopping.

Dollar Tree has more than 15,000 stores across the United States and, most importantly, will help you save money. Who doesn’t want that? Even with the price change that is going to happen soon, Dolar Tree will remain one of the most advantageous shops for Americans. Unfortunately, because of inflation, some products will be sold at $7 instead of $1,25 by the end of the year, but don’t worry! We’ll still benefit from some great deals!

As you already know, the brand offers various products, from household essentials, and personal care products, to decoration items, party supplies, and even snacks. Be careful! Not all of these items are worth your money, even though they can be really affordable.

Do you want to be more frugal? Avoid these 7 items from Dollar Tree:

1. Instant ramen

You probably remember the instant ramen from your college days. It used to be really good, especially when consumed with our best friends. Well, the price of ramen has changed. It’s not as cheap as you remember, but still very tasty. Is it worth the calories? Totally, not. Avoid spending on ramen if you want to be more frugal and also… healthier.

2. Premade baked goods

Premade baked goods can be cheap but they are not nutritious at all. Usually, when it comes to food items, we shouldn’t search for the cheapest items found at the grocery store, because it most likely means to purchase the lowest quality.

If we regularly consume low-quality food, we risk developing serious health issues. So, it’s completely fine to be more frugal, but not when it comes to our health and the way we treat our bodies!

3. Vitamins

Never buy vitamins from Dollar Tree! Yes, you can find some really cheap vitamins and supplements but they are not regulated, which means that you have no idea what they can do to your body. “It might seem like Dollar Tree is the best place to get your groceries and save some money. But not everything at Dollar Tree is a great buy for your needs,” Scott Liberman said.

4. Canned Goods

The cans found at Dollar Tree are likely to be full of sugar and sodium. So, you better avoid them. The health issues you might deal with after trying cheap canned goods are not worth it. Plus, you can find better options at Target or Aldi. Save your money for something else!

5. Batteries

Do you want to damage your electronics? If not, avoid buying cheap batteries from Dollar Tree. Their quality is very poor and they will not last you long enough. So, cheap batteries bought from Dollar Tree are a waste of money, and opting for them doesn’t make you frugal at all, considering the possibility of damaging your more expensive electronic products. Choose wisely!

6. Fruit Spreads

You can find cheaper alternatives to what you’d buy, but you must ask yourself if the deal is worth it. If you want to buy fruit spreads, you better opt for name-brand jelly. They contain less preservatives and sugar. Even though it might cost you more, it’s for sure a better choice for your overall health.

7. Generic spices

Spices might be cheap at Dollar Tree, but their quality is poor, and their flavor is not the best.

“Sure, the prices are going to seem reasonable at $1,25 for a decent-sized container, but many of these cheaper brands were recalled recently, due to their presence of lead,” Rahmond said. As long as you can purchase some really tasty and high-quality spices from other grocery stores, you better stay away from Dollar Tree!

8. Name-brand cereals

Name-brand cereals are not a good deal at Dollar Tree, considering that they are sold in smaller packages! When you compare the cost per ounce or per serving to larger packages available at other stores, you’ll often find that the larger packages offer a better value. “You can find 3.5oz pouches of things like Honey Nut Cheerios at Dollar Tree, but at $1,25 per pouch, that’s not a good deal,” Ramhold said.

Frugality is a lifestyle

Frugality is a choice that prioritizes smart spending. Being more frugal, helps us manage our finances, save money, and significantly reduce financial stress. Don’t know where to start from? We’ll give you 3 useful advice. If you take them into account, you’re likely to become more frugal s.

  • track your income: periodically check the balance between your income and your expenses
  • set limits: focus on buying what you need rather than what you want
  • use a budget planner: it will help you take control of your finances

A great budget planner can be found on Amazon.  This comprehensive planner allows you to plan and track your income, expenses, and savings. With its easy-to-use sections, you can stay organized and achieve financial success. It has a water-resistant cover, combining practicability and durability.

Selling most of their products at just $1,25 is a great strategy for Dollar Tree. This way, they succeed in constantly attracting new customers, but also making the old ones come back. People tend to buy whatever they find affordable, without thinking about the utility of the product or the negative effects it can have on their bodies. That is why, a cheap grocery shop like Dollar Tree has such a success. However, to be frugal means much more than spending your money on cheap things you don’t need. So, before purchasing anything, think about its worthiness.
