Frugal People Always Get These 11 Things in Bulk

things you should always buy in bulk

What are the best things you should always buy in bulk?

Quantity or quality? Or both? It has never been simpler to buy your food in bulk thanks to shops like Target, Amazon, Costco, Trader Joe’s, and many more. But what is this “hype” about buying in bulk? What if you don’t consume all of them and they get spoiled easily? Don’t worry; we’ll explain everything to you.

First of all, you should start thinking about getting your supplies in bulk if your pantry has room to store them. Well, besides saving a lot of money, they’ll also last you for a while.

But while buying in bulk is pretty advantageous, not all things are worth buying like this. We spoke with some frugal folks who were ready to divulge their secret to keep their expenses as low as possible while still getting everything they needed.

Here are all the things you should always buy in bulk to save yourself some money, including pasta, beans, toilet paper, and canned products.

1. Canned goods

You’ve guessed it right! One of the first things you should always buy in bulk is canned goods. It’s necessary to make certain sacrifices to be frugal, but you don’t have to give up good meals to do so. Canned goods are named like this for a reason!

Vegetables, fruits, tomatoes, beans, and other things all taste fantastic in cans. For example, the 4-packs of corn reduce the price of the individual kernels while making them almost indestructible. Plus, there will always be a canned food drive, whether for a fast salad or a decadent dessert, even if you can’t use it right away.

2. Coffee

When it comes to things you should always buy in bulk, coffee is somewhere in the top five. Buying coffee beans in bulk will help you save a lot of money in the long run if you drink coffee daily and consume bags of beans pretty fast.

For instance, 6 lbs of Jose’s Organic French Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee sells at Costco for $39.99, which is just $10 more expensive than what you would spend at Walmart for the same quantity of coffee beans.

3. Frozen fruits and vegetables

Other items that are less costly frozen than fresh are fruits and vegetables. While many people opt for buying them fresh during the season, if you want to save some money and enjoy some during the winter season to bake pies, tarts, or any other dishes you and your family love, it’s better to buy them frozen in bulk.

And the vegetables? Mix them with your favorite homemade sauce and stir-fry them whenever you’re up for something tasty and easy to make!

4. Seasonings

One of the things you should always buy in bulk is seasonings. If you know that you cook at least five times a week, buying a bulk of seasoning is more frugal than you think!

Some of the most common seasonings people buy are pepper, salt, basil, chili flakes, cumin, oregano, and garlic powder. The good thing is that you can find these for less than $2 per pack. Buy the large ones without hesitation! Having several alternatives is usually wonderful, and it’s even better when they last for a while.

5. Pet food

When you own a pet, making it happy is your number one priority! But to have a happy animal, you must also look after its health. That’s why buying good-quality food is very important.

Although pet food is one of the things you should always buy in bulk, it’s crucial to keep in mind that pet food is still perishable. Therefore,  vets advise figuring out your pet’s typical food intake and comparing it to the volume of your bulk purchase to ensure that nothing goes to waste.

6. Shampoo and conditioner

When purchasing shampoo and conditioner, buying in bulk is unquestionably the best option, especially if you’re purchasing for a large family that uses bath products frequently.

A wonderful example of how you may save money is by purchasing this 6-pack of Dove shampoo from Amazon, which is far less expensive than the deals that Costco is now offering.

Be aware of the fact that retailers might change their offer weekly, so before you put something on your shopping list, make sure it’s still on discount!

7. Alcohol

Are you throwing a party, which, surprisingly, most people confirmed? Now you have more than 8 guests who enjoy having fun, eating good food, and indulging in some alcohol. There is no problem with that, but you already know how expensive alcohol can get!

That’s why alcohol should definitely be one of the things you should always buy in bulk. Choose the more expensive $16 for a 24-pack rather than the fast $7 six-pack of beers. While this might sound like a costly option, the truth is that by filling your fridge with extras, you’ll save money. Win, win!

8. Rice

Rice pairs well with almost any protein and is perfect for bulk storage since it lasts so long. Sorry, spaghetti, but rice could easily become your new go-to for dinner, and in most stores, rice is even cheaper than a lot of other types of pasta.

9. Cereal

Of all the things you should always buy in bulk, cereal is by far the best. Easy to combine with milk, yogurt, and fruits, cereals are one item everybody should have in their pantry.

Whenever you come across a store that sells cereal in bulk, do not hesitate to purchase it. It’s preferable to stick to simple, unsweetened ones, mostly because they’re cheaper, but that’s up to you and your family’s preferences!

10. Cleaning supplies

There are several things you should always buy in bulk, including sponges, microfiber cloths, laundry, and dishwashing detergent.
While most products don’t expire the same way food does, some goods, like detergent for washing clothes, can really lose their potency over time.
However, as with any other items mentioned before, you still want to purchase wisely. Before purchasing a large quantity of any brand, get to know it.

For instance, if you find out one of your family members is allergic to laundry detergent, you could regret purchasing a multipack with 96 loads of detergent in each bottle.

11. Baking staples

If baking and cooking from scratch are your biggest passions, you must buy baking staples in bulk. Items like flour, baking soda, and even sugar usually last up to a year or longer if they are stored correctly in the pantry.

Milk is another baking staple that can be stored for more than 5 months in your freezer, even if its expiration date is sooner. Store it in small batches and take it out whenever you need it.

Bottom line:

There are indeed certain items that are best to buy in bulk, but it’s important to avoid purchasing more than you really need, which could lead to waste and spoiled products. If you want to save money while shopping, the best strategy is to go for a larger size of the item you need, instead of buying excessive quantities.
