Do you still remember Bed Bath & Beyond? Of course you do, who could forget about it? You can most likely smell it only by hearing the words. Well, after shuffling off this mortal coil last year, the brand decided to make quite a comeback. Well, this time a bit different than before.
In April 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. All its retail locations were shuttered by June. Then, it completely moved online in partnership with Overstock.com. After striking a deal with Kirkland’s Home, the two well-known brands planned to open a couple of brick-and-mortar locations. Bed Bath & Beyond keeps clawing its way out of the grave.
Will these new stores be the same as the old ones?
As far as we can tell, they won’t be as big, warehouse-esque as we remember them. This time around, they will have a more “neighborhood” -ish approach, each of them having somewhere between 7,000 and 15,000 square feet, and carrying “a nicely curated assortment from iconic legacy vendor partners.”
What were the terms of the deal?
In a seven-year collaboration, Bed Bath & Beyond entered into a $17 million term loan credit agreement. Some $8.5 million of that is still a convertible note, which means it can be easily converted into stock, rather than being repaid.
Is Kirkland’s home the same company as Kirkland Signature?
Kirkland’s Home is a separate thing, meaning a home goods store, and completely unrelated to Costco’s house brand, Kirkland Signature. Now, shouldn’t we refresh our memory for the big opening and mention all the things we absolutely loved to get from Bed, Bath & Beyond?
Moving supplies
Whether you’re moving into a dorm or a new home, the whole process of relocating is simply a gigantic headache. The right supplies could really help you in this case. Bed Bath & Beyond’s website has a special section with moving tips and tricks, such as packing hacks and a moving-day checklist.
Well, no wonder that the store also sells moving supplies, like furniture sliders. If you never tried one of those, you will rapidly realize why the whole process was so hard to complete. In other words, some of these products are simply life-changing.
Naturally, you can make a move without all these extras. However, moving day is so exhausting that the future version of you will rapidly thank you for every smart shortcut you decided to buy from Bed, Bath & Beyond!
K-cups
I simply adore my Keurig coffee maker, which lets me welcome a satisfying amount of friends and serve them whichever coffee they prefer, from French toast all the way to French vanilla. Bed Bath & Beyond is nothing but a Keurig heaven. On top of all the Keurig coffee makers, the store also sells K-cup coffee. Even better, they also have their own selection of accessories, like refillable K-cups.
Candles
Who doesn’t love the scent and look of candles, especially your ex-favorite candle store closed without any notice? Well, at Bed, Bath & Beyond, you can easily find a variety of Yankee Candle products in different sizes, shapes, and scents (just think about your favorite fragrances like Vanilla Cupcake and Bahama Breeze).
Moreover, if you are worried about flickering flames, the store also sells scent plugs, which you can easily plug into an electrical socket and fully enjoy the scent without the flame. You can also get flameless candles if that’s something that would interest you.
Heated blankets and mattress pads
I remember one time I decided to visit my mother-in-law in Southern California, relishing the entire idea of getting away from Seattle’s rainy winter. Well, as you can imagine, we were pretty shocked to find out that the temperatures were just as low.
We tried to look into every single home store in Los Angeles hunting for electric blankets. Well, the only thing we could find was, as you might have guessed, in Bed Bath and Beyond. They offered both soothing electric blankets and heated mattress pads.
The pads are so good at evening out the warmth. Looking back, we now know we should have started with Bed, Bath & Beyond, since it’s our primary stop for cozy covers back home, as well.
Pet supplies
Bed, Bath & Beyond doesn’t have as many pet supplies as the warehouse-size pet store chains. It’s worth knowing beforehand that you won’t buy dog food or cat litter from here. However, you will still be quite impressed with Bed, Bath & Beyond’s carefully curated pet products.
Out there, you will see shelf after shelf of catnip treats for cats, or teeth-cleaning snacks for dogs. They also have a bunch of cozy pet beds, and the quality is paw-some, as well.
Regional-pride items
In all honesty, only a few people would even consider going to Bed, Bad & Beyond for trip souvenirs. However, here’s a shocking tip: the stores I’ve visited so far made quite an effort to stock a bunch of regional pride and sports-team memorabilia.
We can only hope they will keep doing just that. The local-focused items make for plenty of thoughtful hostess gifts or adorable memories to take home.
Thanksgiving table accessories
We’ve all been hosting Thanksgiving dinners for years now. If you’re anything like me, you know how it feels to fall short on specific accessories for the holiday table. Well, I can’t wait for Bed, Bath & Beyond to open again, because as far as I was concerned, it was over the river and through the woods.
Now, I need to mention a few very specific things that I hope to see soon in their stores, so bear with me.
iRobot Roomba j7+
Out of all the household chores out there, vacuuming is by far the worst one. That’s probably why so many people are so crazy over robot vacuums. Of the ones we managed to try out so far, we found that iRobot Roomba j7+ is the best at picking up dirt. It’s also the only robot vacuum that can instantly empty itself when it’s finished.
A top-rated Keurig coffee maker
Do you want to know a secret? Making good coffee at home is definitely, 100% possible. However, you might need the right coffee maker to do so. Our experts are crazy over the one from Bed, Bath & Beyond because it is extremely versatile and brews the most delicious coffee in a matter of seconds. Besides, it also has an attached milk frother for when you are in the mood for something fancier.
The iconic KitchenAid stand mixer
If you’re wondering whether or not the beloved KitchenAid stand mixer is the best thing out there, I would say it is. Sorry, that’s just me I guess. I mean, not only it’s exceptionally well-made, but it can also be used with a bunch of other attachments, which means it can do everything from knead bread dough to homemade pasta.
My favorite Dutch oven
In the world of Dutch ovens, Le Creuset gets all the attention. However, our cooking experts would probably argue that Staub is even better than that. In our own tests, the cast iron cocotte cooked food evenly and thoroughly, whether it was braising meat or sautéing vegetables, and it’s just the right amount for sitting on the stove or sliding into the oven.
